Electronic Music at the Darmstadt Summer Course
The Electronics Atelier 2018 as part of the Darmstadt Summer Course will for the first time be curated by an artist: the Austrian electronic musician Susanne Kirchmayr (aka Electric Indigo) was invited by Thomas Schäfer, Artistic Director of the Darmstadt Summer Course, to curate a workshop and concert series. Susanne Kirchmayr will present four very different artistic positions of current experimental electronic music by Antye Greie-Ripatti (aka AGF, poemproducer), Sky Deep (aka Sky Dietrich), Ryoko Akama and Cedrik Fermont (aka C-dric, Kirdec, Syrphe). All four artists will offer workshops lasting several days, centering on questions of artistic production as well as on current political contexts of creation. Workshop details will be published soon, online application and booking will start on 15 January on this website.more

Documentary #3: Archive Fever
Being overwhelmed by the presence of history, that’s the feeling that Lars Petter Hagen recalls from his first visit of the IMD archive with its original correspondence by famous composers and theoreticians, recordings of legendary lectures and performances, scores, a very rare photo collection and even some video. Commissioned by the Darmstadt Summer Course, the norwegian composer, festival director and curator developed a concert-installation for a historic context: In the 60s and 70s, the Justus-Liebig-Haus was the place of legendary Summer Course events.more
Documentary #2: Music in the Expanded Field
With another video by nmzMedia (Katharina Herkommer und Jörg Lohner) we are looking back once again on the past year and the International Summer Course for New Music (29 July to 14 August 2016). Under the motto „Music in the Expanded Field“ the Darmstadt Summer Course has featured new and commissioned works by Ashley Fure, Lars Petter Hagen, François Sarhan, Annesley Black, the choreographic concert „UN/RUHE“ by Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, Sasha Waltz & Guests, the Composer-Performer Workshop with Jennifer Walshe and David Helbich or Marko Ciciliani’s Workshop on audiovisuality „Music in the Expanded Field“ – to name only a few projects with this thematic focus.
Documentary #1: Darmstadt Summer Course 2016
Katharina Herkommer and Jörg Lohner (nmzMedia) have accompanied the Darmstadt Summer Course 2016 (29 July to 14 August 2016) with their camera and captured some impressions from concerts, installations, workshops and other activities, also providing a glimpse of the precious and now digitized Summer Course archive and ways of its artistic reflection. This is the first of two documentaries on this year's Darmstadt Summer Course and its 70th anniversary.
Many thanks to all contributors in the film!
