“Taking one’s own position requires a personal kind of research, discovery, and internalization, but also analysis, which is what makes a personal position possible in the first place.“
The „depot legal“ for contemporary music since 1946 – this is an apt description of the library of the International Music Institute Darmstadt (IMD). The reference collection was established in 1948 in order to bring together as comprehensive a collection as possible of the important works of new music under one roof. Today, it offers scholars, musicians, and journalists a research resource like no other in the world. The collection contains primary and secondary literature, including over 40.000 scores, program booklets, books, anthologies, lexicons, current music and specialist periodicals, and a comprehensive LP and CD collection. The adjacent archive also contains valuable and unique historic documents in sound, text and image.
