For the literature about the music after 1945 the International Summer Course for New Music Darmstadt respectivly the International Music contributed important articles, lectures and books – on the one hand the IMD published the Darmstädter Beiträge zur Neuen Musik, the Darmstädter Diskurse (two volumes so far) or the huge edition for the 50th anniversary of the Summer Course that was published by an international team of scientists in 1996: Von Kranichstein zur Gegenwart. 50 Jahre Darmstädter Ferienkurse (1946-1996) (559 pages).
On the other hand the IMD opened its archives for the scientific community; probably the most important book has been published in 1997 with Im Zenit der Moderne. Die Internationalen Ferienkurse für Neue Musik Darmstadt 1946-1966 that was edited by Hermann Danuser and Gianmario Borio in cooperation with Pascal Decroupet, Inge Kovács, Andreas Meyer und Wilhelm Schlüter (project funded by the German Research Foundation).
The different CD productions document significant compositions of particular Summer Courses (since 1998), a four volumes box that was also released in 1996 for the 50th anniversary, allow fascinating insights into the rich audio archive of the IMD.
