Thomas Schäfer



Born 1967 in Hamburg. Studied Musicology, Literature and Philosophy at the University of Hamburg. PhD 1997 at Humboldt University Berlin. 1998/99 Postdoc at Hamburg University, at the same time producer for contemporary music at North German Radio in Hamburg. 2000-07 curator for the festivals Wien Modern, Hörgänge and responsible for the new music activities at Konzerthaus Vienna (e.g. concert series „generator“).

2008 consultant for Wien Modern, scientific project related to the music of Roman Haubenstock-Ramati (together with Paul Sacher Foundation, Basle and Music Academy Basle). Author, editor and curator in the field of contemporary music. Since 2009 Director of the International Music Institute Darmstadt (IMD) and Artistic Director of the International Summer Course Darmstadt.

Jürgen Krebber

Associate Director


Studied Musicology, History of Art and Philosophy at Philipps University Marburg. After his academic studies curator for different exhibitions (e.g. 1995/96 „From Kranichsteim into the presence. 50 Years Darmstadt Summer Course“, 1996 Retrospective Mary Bauermeister). Since 1997 Project Manager at the International Music Institute Darmstadt (IMD), since 2001 Research Associate and Associate Director at IMD.

Jürgen Krebber is member of the International Association of Music Information Centres (IAMIC), since 2005 member of the Executive Board of the German Association for New Music (GNM) and since 2006 member of the Advisory Board of the Music Information Center Germany (MIZ).

Jens Engemann

Event Manager


2002 training in management for audiovisual media in Frankurt am Main. 2005 - 2010 freelancer for several music labels and editions. 2007 - 2014 divisional director of the Darmstadt venue 603qm.

Since 2008 responsible for advertising marketing of the Darmstadt culture magazine “P“ and editorial support. Since 2009 advertising marketing for the program journal of Centralstation Darmstadt.

2010 additional training as event manager. In 2014, Jens Engemann joined the IMD team.

Sylvia Freydank

Project and Media Manager


Born 1980 in Dresden. Studied Musicology, Art History and French Linguistics in Dresden, Geneva and Berlin, Magister Artium 2006 with a thesis on the reception of Alban Berg at the Darmstadt Summer Course 1946 to 1961. Freelance work in Public Relations and Dramaturgy 2001 to 2006 for Dresden Centre for Contemporary Music (now: Hellerau - European Centre for the Arts Dresden) and since 2004 for the International Summer Course for New Music Darmstadt. Reviews, translations, texts for concert programs and radio (hr2-kultur). 2007 to November 2009 member of Schott Music's contemporary music promotion staff, afterwards Georg-Christoph-Lichtenberg Scholarship (musicology PhD program "Erinnerung- Wahrnehmung - Bedeutung"). 2013/14 project coordination for the Summer of Architecture Rhine-Main (Osthang Project). Since 2014 permanent member of the IMD team and responsible for project development and communication.

Nina Jozefowicz

Freelance Media & PR


Born in 1980 in Cologne, studied Musicology and Italian Philology at the Free University and Technical University in Berlin. In 2011, wrote her PhD thesis on Luigi Nono’s vocal compositions with tape, in the context of the composer’s incomplete music-theater projects. While carrying out research on contemporary music in Venice and Milan, she created the agency for intercultural communication, lingualounge. In 2012, curated the image installation “Sketches – Documents from the Luigi Nono Archive in Venice” in Kraftwerk Berlin in collaboration with the Staatsoper Berlin. In 2013, production manager of “Roundhouse Reverb – a film installation of György Kurtág’s Kafka Fragments” in the Jewish Museum Berlin and in the deSingel in Antwerp. Freelance author for WDR, RBB, and Deutschlandradio Kultur.

Claudia Mayer-Haase

Born 1961 in Darmstadt. 1976-1991 cello lessions at the Academy for Musical Art Darmstadt. 2001-2011 member and spokeswoman of the Vocal Ensemble Darmstadt. Since 2003 private singing lessons and since 2010 member of the Extra-Choir at the State Theatre Darmstadt. 1982-1991 Technical Assistant at the organic chemistry department of the Technical Academy Darmstadt. 1998/99 community service for the library of the Natural Science Association Darmstadt. Since 2000 Assistant Documentary at IMD.

Regine Zettl

Assistant to the Management


Born 1967 in Krefeld, Regine studied German and English language and literature at the Heinrich-Heine Universität in Düsseldorf. Since 1991 she held different positions as light planner and office assistant. After completing a training program of IHK (Chamber of Industry and Commerce) Darmstadt in office management in 2016/17, Regine joined the IMD team in August 2017.
