Being overwhelmed by the presence of history, that’s the feeling that Lars Petter Hagen recalls from his first visit of the IMD archive with its original correspondence by famous composers and theoreticians, recordings of legendary lectures and performances, scores, a very rare photo collection and even some video. Commissioned by the Darmstadt Summer Course, the norwegian composer, festival director and curator developed a concert-installation for a historic context: In the 60s and 70s, the Justus-Liebig-Haus was the place of legendary Summer Course events.more

At the next Darmstadt Music Talk on 22 March 2017 at Rex-Kino "Broadway" Christian Gropper will present his 40-minute documentary NACHHALL ("Reverberation"). In this Oral History project of IMD some protagonists of the early beginnings are telling their stories on the Darmstadt Summer Course.

With another video by nmzMedia (Katharina Herkommer und Jörg Lohner) we are looking back once again on the past year and the International Summer Course for New Music (29 July to 14 August 2016). Under the motto „Music in the Expanded Field“ the Darmstadt Summer Course has featured new and commissioned works by Ashley Fure, Lars Petter Hagen, François Sarhan, Annesley Black, the choreographic concert „UN/RUHE“ by Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, Sasha Waltz & Guests, the Composer-Performer Workshop with Jennifer Walshe and David Helbich or Marko Ciciliani’s Workshop on audiovisuality „Music in the Expanded Field“ – to name only a few projects with this thematic focus.
Documentary #1: Darmstadt Summer Course 2016
Katharina Herkommer and Jörg Lohner (nmzMedia) have accompanied the Darmstadt Summer Course 2016 (29 July to 14 August 2016) with their camera and captured some impressions from concerts, installations, workshops and other activities, also providing a glimpse of the precious and now digitized Summer Course archive and ways of its artistic reflection. This is the first of two documentaries on this year's Darmstadt Summer Course and its 70th anniversary.

Kranichstein Music Prize awarded
The 26-year-old composer Celeste Oram and the 23-year-old trombonist Weston Olencki are the recipients of the 2016 Kranichstein Music Prize. The prize, founded in 1952, is awarded to one current composition and one current performance (ensemble or solo) within the International Summer Course for New Music Darmstadt and has a monetary value of 3.000 Euros.more
GRID – Gender relations in Darmstadt
Composer Ashley Fure, Kranichstein Music Prize winner in 2014, has initated a series of events dealing with gender relations in the new music scene with Darmstadt as one of their most prominent spots. After a lecture by Georgina Born and a panel, several think tanks at the OPEN SPACE are organized during the Summer Course under the title GRID – Gender Relations in Darmstadt.more
