Young Ensembles Platform Meeting

Through the project ENSEMBLE and the promotion scheme boost! IMD supports since 2010 young New Music ensembles at the beginning of their careers. An international ensemble network is now initiated with a first ensemble platform meeting taking place in Darmstadt on 5 and 6 September 2013. It is accompanied by Lucas Pairon, founding director of the Belgian Ictus ensemble, who had offered consultations for young ensembles already during the Darmstadt Summer Course in 2012. A continuation of the ensemble meeting is planned for 2014 at the 47th International Summer Course for New Music.

The platform meeting is hosted by IMD who offers the framework (provides space, helps with lodging and coordinating the program), but topics will be identified and prepared by the ensembles themselves. Around 30 representatives of ensembles from Europe and the US who took part in the Darmstadt Summer Course during the last few years confirmed their participation.

As a supplement to this internal exchange the Friends of IMD are organizing a roundtable with external guests for the evening of 5 September: Under the title "Creating and Loosing Repertoires" Lucas Fels (moderation, cellist of Arditti Quartet), Stephan Gehmacher (general manager of Philharmonie Luxembourg), the Irish composer and performer Jennifer Walshe and the musicologist Ulrich Mosch (Paul Sacher Stiftung Basel) will discuss with the ensembles on present music scene(s), processes of repertoire building and the presenters' perspective(s).
