Cello Piano Composition Workshop

Tutors: Lucas Fels, Brian Ferneyhough, Nicolas Hodges

Workshop with selection process

For participants of the composition, piano, and cello courses
Application deadline: 15 July 2016

During the Darmstadt Summer Course 2016 Lucas Fels (cello tutor), Nicolas Hodges (piano tutor) and Brian Ferneyhough (composition tutor) will offer a workshop for cellists, pianists, and composers.
New pieces for cello and piano will be workshopped, followed by a concert presenting many of the resulting works. Questions of individual instrumental writing, concepts of chamber music, and compositional concerns will be explored in parallel. A free exchange of ideas between all participants will be encouraged.

Registered cellists, pianists and composers are all free to take part, but not all projects can be realized. Thus, there is a selection procedure of the works. Already formed duos are welcome, but generally, individual musicians and composers will be brought together by the tutors in order to then study the new works during the course. Composers must be fully present for the course, and all participants are encouraged to attend all sessions.

Composers are asked to e-mail PDF files of score and performance material by 15 July 2016 to:

Works must be composed for duo (without electronics), and may be fully complete, or may be advanced sketches for completion during the course. No techniques or preparations which damage instruments will be accepted.

The selection of works will be made by the tutors until the first day of the Summer Course (30 July 2016).

All workshop participants have to be registered for the Darmstadt Summer Course 2016.
