Christian Dierstein (Percussion)

The two percussion tutors at the 2016 Darmstadt Summer Course, Christian Dierstein and Håkon Stene, will present themselves at Centralstation with solo percussion pieces whose aesthetic positions and characters could scarcely be more different. The eponymous work metalized void by Claus-Steffen Mahnkopf was written in close collaboration with Håkon Stene. It forms a part of Mahnkopf’s large- scale void cycle, which consists of ten compositions in total and has been in progress since 2002. The piece will be bookended by Johannes Kreidler’s Fantasies of Downfall for vibraphone, audio and video playback – a form of musical motion study on apocalyptic visions – and Mark Andre’s Lachenmann tribute S2 for percussion. The program will close with the world premiere of Musiktheater für einen Schlagzeuger by Hanna Eimermacher – a piece in which the composer seeks to explore the stage as a space for the maximum sharpening of our senses. She also addresses the question of what relationship exists between the body and the stage, the instrument, sound and form.
