historage – Gender Relations in Darmstadt
GRID: Gender Relations in Darmstadt
Panel with Ashley Fure and others
When Ashley Fure — in the context of the historage-project — was invited to confront the vast collection of the IMD archive creatively, the most pressing question that came to her mind wasn’t what’s in the archive, but what isn’t. In the following she dealt with that question through the lens of gen- der. She gathered a simple set of metrics charting gender breakdowns of a few key areas: female/male ratios of compositions performed, lectures given, participants attended, and prizes won, each year of the festival. Joined by collaborators, including Georgina Born of Oxford University, Fure offers this harvest- ed data now for the Darmstadt community to digest. Through a range of events, from round-table discus- sions to Open Space activities, she wants to spark critical reflection on the past, present, and speculative futures of the Darmstadt Summer Course.
