The Schallfeld Ensemble from Graz was founded in 2011 by former Klangforum Wien students. The young musicians come from five different countries and act as a free collective of soloists, performing in different formations. At the Darmstadt Summer Course, Ensemble Schallfeld will conduct workshops with Jorge Sánchez-Chiong and Francesco Filidei, as well as working on various projects with young composers. Like the ensembles Mocrep (USA) and We Spoke (CH/GB), Schallfeld was invited to use this year’s course as a two-week platform for working and networking. After the focuses on ensembles in 2010, 2012 and 2014, as well as the successfully implemented ensemble support programs in the same years, it is by now a standard feature of the Darmstadt Summer Course to offer formats for young ensembles in addition to the composition and performance workshops. In 2016, each ensemble will present itself in a self-curated showcase. For this purpose, Schallfeld has chosen music including works by Franck Bedrossian and Richard Barrett.
