    Participants of the workshop „Expanded Music" selected

    Simon Steen-Andersen and ensemble soundinitiative have chosen their partcipants for the workshop „Expanded Music" at Kunsthalle Darmstadt:

     

    Patricia Alessandrini, Ricardo Eizirik, Evan Gardner, Simon Løffler, Andrés Nunes de Buen, Alessandro Perini, Chris Swithinbank and Katherine Young.

     

    The exact workshop appointments will be published later. A project presentation is scheduled for Friday, 15 August 2014, 2pm at Kunsthalle.

    Bicycle pick-up will start on 3 August at 11:00 next to the festival office at Lichtenbergschule.

    For lunch there will also be two mobile snack bars at campus Lichtenbergschule where you can buy small meals without booking in advance and at the check-in in Darmstadt you will get a list of bistros and restaurants in the neighbourhood.

    The winner of the Reinhard Schulz Prize has been chosen

    The Reinhard Schulz Prize for Contemporary Music Journalism 2014 goes to Benedikt Leßmann from Leipzig. A special award ceremony will take place on 13 August, during the 47th International Summer Course for New Music Darmstadt.

     

    A performance by Ensemble Nikel will follow, with compositions by Stefan Prins, Michael Wertmüller, Pierluigi Billone and Vladimir Gorlinsky.

International Summer Course for New Music

The International Summer Course for New Music or simply: the Darmstadt Summer Course – was founded already in 1946, one year after the end of World War II, by Wolfgang Steinecke (at that time cultural consultant and Head of the Department of Arts and Culture) who had the artistic responsibility for the Summer Course up to his death in 1961. Further leaders have been Ernst Thomas (1962-1981) and Friedrich Hommel (1981-1994). From 1995-2008 Solf Schaefer organized the Summer Course. With beginning of the year 2009, Thomas Schäfer became the new Artistic Director of the International Summer Course and of the International Music Institute (IMD).
