“A NEW AUDIOVISUAL EXPERIENCE – New Music in Film and Television”: This is the title of the 6th edition – curated by Katrin Rabus – of the International Television Forum for Music “The Look of the Sound” from 10 to 13 March in Bremen that will focus on the presentation of current music films from all areas of classical music as well as contemporary music. Musicians Rohan de Saram and Carin Levine will perform works of Iannis Xenakis, Edgard Varèse, Giacinto Scelsi, Luciano Berio and others. They will discuss possible approaches to cinematographic adaptation in tandem with directors and editors. What are pictures able to bring across that cannot be conveyed live? What do musicians have in common with filmmakers? What programme formats used by broadcasting stations can be applied to New Music?

The Television Forum selected this year’s focal point with an eye to opening up a debate on possible ways of conveying New Music via film and encouraging new forms of cooperation. Those interested in music and/or film can see and discuss numerous films about Stockhausen, Nono, Kurtág, Cage and others with directors, musicians, promoters, music editors of broadcasting stations and music researchers. This year’s Television Forum will aso show the just finished documentary film about the International Summer Course for New Music Making Sounds, Creating Structures by Andrew Chesher and Dave Ryan that uses a lot of historic material of the IMD archives.
The International Television Forum receives non-material assistance from the broadcasting stations of ARD, ZDF, DW and Arte and is supported by the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen.
