Summer Course 2010: new, different, estalished

What potential offers the  Open Space?
The key sentence is: Every participant can take over these spaces temporarily and organize lectures, courses, workshops, presentations, discussions, concerts, performances, etc. All activities will be made publicly accessible via a central communications tool. The organization of these activities (including the audience) will be entirely in the hands of the initiators.

What means networked cooperation?
Though some projects (ENSEMBLE 2010, Electronics Atelier of Orm Finnendahl, Staubach Honoraria) have been monitored in advance of the 2010 Summer Course, participants will have different opportunities to engage into running projects and become active participants – basically within the Open Space but also with lectures and feed back discussions to submitted scores (more details coming soon on this website). We expect the tutor team to engage themselves as coaches for the questions of the participants.

Workshop Concerts
The Studio concerts – basically shown at the last three days of the Course – will be changed into Workshop Concerts that start at the very beginning of the Summer Course as an „open stage“ every afternoon. Classes or parts of classes, single musicians or small formations, composing performers or performing composers with or without the tutors can be shown in short slots. By the way: All performed works will be examined by the Kranichstein Music Prize jury.

Reading Sessions
The invited ensembles will, along with their concerts, also be engaged in other aspects of the courses. Each visiting ensemble has been asked to undertake an open reading session with 4 to 5 works by course participants: concentrated one-hour modules in an informal setting. The intent is not so much a polished product as a hopefully fruitful work situation with feedback from the ensembles and creative exchanges between all participants. Participation guidelines will be announced with a special Call for Scores on this website soon.

No full meal service anymore
The IMD has decided after long discussions that the Summer Course fee should be stable and that we will therefor disclaim the service of lunch and dinner. Breakfast is – within the offers 1 and 2 – still included. We learned that many of the participants would like to organize their daily program by themselves not being influenced by a fixed meal time table every day. Around the different venues are a lot of cheap restaurants and we will inform every participant in advance about different options to serve themselves. In addition to that we will open caféterias at the main venues Mornewegschule and Akademie für Tonkunst.
