One of the key basics for the institutes services are the archive and the library. The public holding contains more than 30,000 scores of contemporary music and 5.000 scholarly writings on the music of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.

The archive includes almost the complete sound recordings of the concerts and lectures they were held during the summer courses, the record-collection, the well known IMD-Bildarchiv and the collection of letters.
