1. I have composed a piece for (larger) ensemble. How can I present this piece at the Summer Courses? The Call for Scores for the project ENSEMBLE 2012, which is intended as a work environment for talented young ensembles and composers was completed. The selection of pieces will be made by the ensembles themselves in arrangement with the IMD. Besides, there is the possibility for the course participants to submit scores for the Reading Sessions of the guest ensembles. Special calls for this you will find on the website of the IMD.

6. I am a registered composition student and would like to present a work for solo instrument or small ensemble (4 players or fewer) at the Darmstadt Summer Courses. Is that possible? What do I need to do? Compositions for solo instrument or small formations can, in certain cases, be prepared for performance in the workshop concerts, if the instrumental docents decide that the right instrumental combination is available among the registered students, and if the piece is not significantly longer than 10 minutes. Please confer with the Festival office at the beginning of the courses, so that contact can be established with the instrumental teachers. Please assemble the necessary performance materials before you arrive: several copies of the full score for the jury and individual parts for the performers. Secondary instruments and all other extra performance materials must be provided by the composers. Please keep in mind that pieces of great logistical complexity cannot be realized during the courses, and that many special demands (piano preparations, complicated technology, unavailable instruments) can be grounds for eliminating a score from consideration. The decision about performance of these compositions will be made by the instrumental teachers in conference with the festival administration.

7. I am a registered instrumentalist and would like to present my skills as a soloist or as a member of a small ensemble consisting of other registrants. Where can I perform? All registered instrumentalists at the Darmstadt Summer Courses are given the opportunity to appear in the workshop concerts for a work of maximum 10 minutes. Please discuss your program suggestion with the appropriate instrumental teachers. Note that the jury will give preference to works of composers present at the courses (teachers as well as students) who are willing to undertake ensemble work. Solo presentations of the contemporary repertoire or of modernist classics is expressly not recommended! Please assemble the necessary performance materials before you arrive: several copies of the full score for the jury and individual parts for the performers. You must also provide any secondary instruments and other miscellaneous performance materials. Please keep in mind that pieces of great logistical complexity cannot be realized during the courses, and that many special demands (piano preparations, complicated technology, unavailable instruments) can be grounds for eliminating a suggested score from consideration. The decision about performance of these compositions will be made by the instrumental teachers in conference with the festival administration.
